Conference Leadership courses are more for
personnel who are stepping into Conference Disaster responsibilities
that will involve coordinating multiple teams, multiple agency contacts in their
assignments, and fulfill the federal training requirements for those in
such leadership positions .
REQUIRED
001 M-100 Introduction to Disaster Response (3 hrs) No
matter what type of team one is headed to, everyone will receive this
training. There is a lot of background information that the new volunteer
will need in order to function effectively in a disaster. Aspects
covered are disaster terminology, ministry basis of disaster response,
Methodist history, agencies in disaster, disaster relief services, the
disaster team, disaster team member, how to prepare, what to take, and the
early response team (ERT). This course must be renewed every three

Georgia Conference Disaster Response Ministry.
002 IS-100 Introduction to the Incident
Command System (2 hrs) Federal regulation (Directive 5
HSPD-5) requires that requires all personnel responding during the
Emergency Stage have completed IS-100 and 700 or not participate
during the first post-disaster stage (Emergency Stage) until the
courses have been completed. This will impact Disaster
Assessment Teams, CERT Teams, some Disaster Response Teams, some Field
Kitchen Teams, and Shower/Laundry Teams. This course introduces
the Incident Command System and provides the foundation for
higher-level ICS-training. This course describes the history,
procedures, and principles, and organizational structure of the
Incident Command System. It also explains the relationships
between ICS and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).

003 IS-700 Introduction to National Incident Management System
(3 hrs) This course explains the purpose, principles, key
components and benefits of NIMS. The course also contains
“Planning Activity” screens giving you an opportunity to complete
some planning takes during the course. [Student

103 IS-200 ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
This is designed to enable personnel to operate efficiently during an
incident or event within the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides
training on and resources for personnel who are likely to assume a
supervisory position within the ICS. IS-100 is a pre-requisite to the IS-200
course. Lessons are as follows: Leadership & Management,
Delegation of Authority & Management by Objectives, Functional Areas
& Positions, Briefings, Organizational Flexibility, Transfer of Command,

104 IS-800 An Introduction to the National Response Plan (NRP) The
National
Response Plan, or NRP, describes how the Federal Government will work in
concert with State, local, and tribal governments and the private sector to

015 DR-2 Resource Disaster Assessment
017 DR-110 Relief Stage: Chain Saw Use and Safety (2 hrs)
This is a classroom course in the four components of chain saw
operations: the operator, the saw, using the chain saw, and the environment
in which it is used. Meeting OSHA requirements and the use of the
buddy system are stressed. Pre-requisite: M-100, IS-100, IS-700 [Taught as
an interactive classroom course: Student manual, PowerPoint, and wallet
certification]
018 DR-111 Relief Stage: Chain Saw Lab (2 hrs) This course
involves actually use of the chain saw. It is taught by a state or
federal forestry employee or by a chain saw company representative.
Pre-requisite: M-100, IS-100, IS-700 [Taught outside and chain saws are
operated]
019 DR-120 Relief Stage: Clean up Methods and Safety (2 hrs)
This course covers the scope of work that is completed during the Relief
Stage, the grounds and building inspection before commencing work, debris
clean-up on the outside, tarping, inside clean-up, and basement pump-out.
Separate documents are included with the training. One is a FEMA 234
“Repairing Your Flooded Home” and the second is a homeowner handout and
cleaning furniture and other personal possessions. Pre-requisite: M-100,

045 ARC: Emergency Operations Center/ICL
101 TL-101 Team Leader (3 hrs) There is
more information on the incident command system, leadership styles, aspects
of taking a team in the field, types of insurance and insurance issues,
liability issues to avoid, and issues within a team, and considerations in
selecting a team leader. Pre-requisite: M-100, IS-100, IS-700 [Taught
in classroom: student manual, PowerPoint, wallet certification]
110 IS-244 Developing and Managing Volunteers This course is
for emergency managers and related professionals working with all types of
volunteers and coordinating with voluntary agencies. The course provides
procedures and tools for building and working with voluntary organizations.
Topics include: benefits and challenges of using volunteers;
building a volunteer program; writing job descriptions; developing
volunteers through recruitment, placement, training, supervision and
evaluation; coordinating with voluntary agencies and community-based
organizations; and special issues including spontaneous volunteers,
liability, and stress. [Self-study

107 IS-240 Leadership & Influence Being able to lead
others - to motivate them to commit their energies and expertise to
achieving the shared mission and goals of the emergency management system -
is a necessary and vital part of the job for every emergency manager,
planner, and responder. This course is designed to improve your leadership
and influence skills. It addresses: leadership from within, how to
facilitate change, how to build and rebuild trust, using personal
influence and political savvy, and fostering an environment for leadership

108 IS-241 Decision Marking and Problem Solving Being able
to make decisions and solve problems effectively is a necessary and vital
part of the job for every emergency manager, planner, and responder. This
course is designed to improve your decision-making skills. It addresses:
the decision-making process, decision-making styles, attributes of an
effective decision maker, and ethical decision making and problem solving [Self-study

109 IS-242 Effective Communications Being able to
communicate effectively is a necessary and vital part of the job for every
emergency manager, planner, and responder. This course is designed to
improve your communication skills. It addresses: basic communication
skills, how to communicate in an emergency, how to identify
community-specific communication issues, using technology as a communication
tool, effective oral communication, and how to prepare an oral presentation.

120 IS-288 The Role of Volunteer Agencies in Emergency Management This course provides a basic understanding of the
history, roles, and services of disaster relief voluntary agencies in

IS-197 Special Needs Planning Considerations For Service and Support
Providers All individuals, advocacy groups, organizations,
and institutions within the special needs service and support system are
encouraged to be proactive and develop emergency plans. The purpose of this
course is to provide representatives of the special needs service and
support system with the basic information and tools to develop their own
emergency plans. This course is designed for people who work with the elderly and people
with disabilities, and will teach how to partner with local Emergency
Management and better prepare for all phases of an emergency. [Self-study online w/test

131 IS-275 The EOC's Role in Community Preparedness The
goal of this independent study course is to provide the reader with the
understanding of the vital role an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) plays
in the overall community's preparedness, response, and recovery activities.
