Gilmer Soules Chapel Aids Recovery

The congregation at Soules Chapel UMC in Gilmer has decided to donate the proceeds from their sesquicentennial celebration to aid Ike recovery.

“We have been planning the celebration for months now and the good people here met last night for our regular Ad Council and elected unanimously to send all the proceeds from the event to Houston .” Rev. Tim Ruland said in an e-mail.

The event will be held at Soules Chapel on Saturday October 4th from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. It will be free to the public, and any donations received will go to help in Hurricane Ike recovery. There will be BBQ and live Gospel music will be performed by Cross County Lines.

"This church has been mission minded all of its life and has survived through a terrible fire that burned the church to the ground. They are special, resilient people, and for them to want to help out during the recovery is just where their hearts have been for over 150 years. We are officially 152 this year but we missed our 150th so we're celebrating this year.” Ruland added.
